Australia Day 2014
Australia Day is the Nation's day to celebrate their country and culture. There are reflections on the achievements of the nation and explorations of ways to make the country even better in the future.
The Australia Day celebrations in Gunnedah open with the Awards Dinner on Saturday evening, at the Police Citizens Youth Club. Here awards are given to community members who have gone above and beyond for what it means to be an Australian – with the Citizens of the year being awarded also. With live entertainment and great company, this is not a night to be missed.
Australia Day starts with the Women's Triathlon at 7am in and around the Gunnedah Memorial Pool complex. A quick breakfast at the Free Family Sausage Sizzle at Donnelly Fields can be had before the commencement of the 9am Raft and Craft Race start, after which the focus moves to the Donnelly Fields, where there is a full program of athletics events. An afternoon of fun and activities at the Pool rounds off the day.
Other events planned include a Church Service and Citizenship Ceremony at the Rotunda, all-day free entry to the pool, a Pet Parade and the popular PCYC Rubber Duck Race.
Residents and visitors are invited to join in all the Australia Day activities planned for the day and to host or participate in Neighbourhood/Street BBQs for a true Aussie lunch.
